Starting a new job with the same pay but trading my hour and a half commute for a 20 minute commute. w00t.

Sweet. I did the same 18 months ago, and the new commute is both shorter and more fun. Hopefully your new
commute will take you through interesting places.

I was about to say that I’m pretty sure you can’t quit Oppo.

Congrats! I expect this will be a good decision. I switched jobs just under a year ago for no real pay increase but a 15 minute commute with basically no traffic. I’ve been so much happier and less stressed at work and at home and I really believe spending less time commuting is a big part of it.

What kind of Jalop wants to spend less time in a car???
Congrats, and good luck. Nothing like that feeling when you say “I’m out!”

It will take me through a very boring part of Maryland, but that’s ok.

I’m thinking the same thing - I’ll get another hour in the morning to sleep in, and at least another hour in the evening to do more family stuff.

My commute is 15 minutes when I go to the actual office, when I have to go to project sites it’s usually California or Oregon and I have drive cars like this.

The Mitsubishi was so terrible that it made it interesting. Like driving a fiat 500 on the autobonn, not really suited for real car duty.

If I still had it man I would love that. It’ll be a transfercase and seats for the Willys, probably new engine seals too.

Being able to get home before my wife will be a huge improvement, just so I can do garage or cook. Man I miss cooking.

I started a new job this spring, finally back in the town I prefer to live. It’s more pay, and theoretically less work responsibility. But, I’ve got offices in two cities, so my commute varies from 12 minutes to 25 minutes, depending on what I need to do that day . And I’ve been so busy, I’ve yet to get home early enough to really luxuriate in making home-cooked meals on any regular sort of basis. (I, too, love cooking!)
Regardless, I’m having a blast. Loving t he new place. Working with a lot of new colleagues and a whole bunch of familiar ones, too. And kicking shit up in the new communities I cover. I’ve already had one public official take note of the stuff I’ve been uncovering in neighboring communities that he has jokingly encouraged me to continue focusing on THOSE communities (rather than scrutinizing his, lol. But that just fuels my curiosity even more ), and another tell me “you always get the story first, don’t you?” after my reporting of several issues led other local media outlets to scramble to catch up.
It’s amazing what a change of scenery can do, isn’t it?
I know this post of yours is a few weeks old now, but I hope you’re settling in well at your new job. I hope you’re enjoying your new office and colleagues and responsibilities.
And I hope you’re getting to cook all the meals you want and spending all the time with your lovely wife that you want.
I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. It sincerely makes my heart happy. I don’t often get to stop by Oppo, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for y’all mods and for the friends I’ve made here.
Anyhoo, apologies for the super long and super random comment. Happy Fourth of July, P arty-vi!

It’s good to read you got a change of scenery and are doing well. A short commute is always something to look forward to, and it has to be nice that the “other” office is only another 10 minutes - I’m technically in a satellite office and my “home” office is in Louisville, 600 miles away.
It sounds like you’re fitting into your new role quite well. I’m glad you’re getting on after the garbage you went through on here. Oppositelock is always open to you - stop by any time. I hope you enjoyed your 4th!
